JPJ Tint Rules 2026: How Dark Your Car Windows Can Be

Under JPJ’s 2026 list of offences, a windscreen that lets through less than 70% of light, or a front side window that lets through less than 50%, is an offence, with a compound of RM150 to RM300.

Which windows the rules cover

The limits are the share of light that passes through the glass. The windscreen must let through at least 70% of light, and the front side windows at least 50%.

Commercial vehicles have a 70% limit. A sticker strip at the top of the windscreen cannot cover more than 20%.

The compound for these offences is RM150 to RM300.

If you need darker windows for security reasons, you can apply for an exemption. The application fee is RM50. Approval on security grounds costs RM5,000 and lasts 2 years.
